On paper it looks simple: a chart with flow rate on the horizontal axis and head on the vertical axis, crossed by curves for efficiency, power, and sometimes the net positive suction head required. In practice, the curve a manufacturer publishes is almost always generated with clean water in a test bay, while the pump you intend to buy will move a mixture of water, solids, and often a corrosive or abrasive chemistry. Reading that curve correctly for slurry duty means knowing exactly which lines still apply, which ones must be shifted, and which axis you are allowed to trust.
